'Map of the estuary of the Tees with the town of Middlesbro', and the docks and railways 1847.'
Comments on map:
Blocks only, presumably corresponding to roughly what had been built up, and thereby contrasting with the various O.M.E. estate maps. Long note on map sets out the advantages of Middlesbrough as compared with Hull, including the tolls, and notes that the population is now over 9000. (Includes a comparative table of port charges for a vessel of 200 tons at Middlesbro' (7:18:6) and Hull (26:19:10), though whereas the Hull table starts with Pilotage (3:5:0), Middlesbro' starts with Life Boat (6d). In view of the omission of the Tees sandbanks, does this represent a regular call-out charge?)
