Comments on map:
Described in Barnsley Library's handlist as 'Poor Law Board' plan, but it is unclear from the map why this should be so: it looks more like an illustration of the 1822 police district. There are evidently later additions and revisions to the map in red, sienna and carmine: these have been taken account of in the record here. The field-numbering may reflect an enclosure map origin, with the new-enclosed areas taking the highest numbers. The numbering system and the lack of tenement divisions rather go against the use of this map for urban rating.
