Comments on map:
Boundaries noted as perambulated by the Commissioners in 1810; map is dated April 1811; rather rough-looking. Bottom left are notes on hackney carriage fares. [John Townley supplies the following additional information: ‘The following advertisement first appeared in Aris's Birmingham Gazette on 15 April 1811: MAP OF BIRMINGHAM: This Day is Published, by John Kempson A NEW MAP of the Town and Parish of BIRMINGHAM, describing particularly the Boundaries of the same, as Perambulated by the Commissioners of the Birmingham Street Acts in the Year 1810. The above may be had at the principal Booksellers, Price FIVE SHILLINGS.’ John Kempson's address is given as Cherry Street in trade directories of 1812 and 1815 but given as Parade in 1816. 'John Kempson respectfully informs his Friends and the Public , that he has removed his office from Cherry Street to the Timber Wharf SATURDAY BRIDGE, ... Birmingham, Nov. 25, 1815’: Aris's Birmingham Gazette, Nov 27, 1815. John Kempson died on 16 March, 1846, aged 64.]
