Note at top of map explaining how Swinden, 'with indefatigable Accuracy', completed the plan at 1 inch to 33 yds [1:1188], 4 ft 9 ins x 2 ft 4 ins [145 x 71 cm], but died 11 Jan 1772 aet 55; it passed to John Ives, FSA, who died soon after, & was then sold to the Corporation, who allowed Armstrong to make a copy in June 1779. 'Pro bono Publico.' Price 3s.6d. Long letterpress description below the engraved area. A photocopy of the manuscript version is described at Exeter 22573.
