Comments on map:
Both the Library version [BM RD 5:88] and the ordinary version [BM RD 5:8:87] are accompanied by letterpress indexes; that for the library map includes 'environs' but omits 'library' from its title. Atlas is published by Philip, London & Liverpool, and is dated 1891: basic map area 16.5 x 12.5 cm, increased to 19.2 x 16.0 by the broad overlaps and border. Supplementary smaller-scale maps of County of London with boroughs, geology, railways, environs of London, Kew Gardens, London zoo, environs of Richmond, Epping Forest, Windsor Park, Thames from Kew to Oxford with small plans of Henley on Thames and Oxford; original soft cover had the Seal of the London County Council, 1889, in gold on a red ground. Letterpress sections: lists of public buildings, cab fares, information on steamboats and buses, 'general index'; maps are on guards, so a high-quality job. Scales have been measured from the scale-bars and the squaring, which yields about 3.08-3.11 inches; the 'New map' cover says the scale is 3 inches.
