'Stanford's Library Map of London and its suburbs.'
Comments on map:
Recored from Ralph Hyde-Harry Margary facsimile, 1980. In 24 sheets plus 1:63,360 index sheet. It is perhaps notable that the main axis of the mapping is north-south rather than west-east (compare with Rocque, e.g.): this enables the Crystal Palace and its grounds to be fitted on comfortably. Features shown are generally at least comparable with Ordnance Survey 1:10,560, and sometimes 1:2500, and sometimes superior to either, e.g. hedges on rural part. The only noticeable defect vis-a-vis the OS is the lack of such details as foreshore. There is some use of sans-serif, not as extensive as that of B.R. Davies, but perhaps influenced by him.
