Comments on map:
In Guide to Knowledge, no.CXVIII (7 June 1834), f.p. 200. In reversed-out style; article on Manchester follows on pp 203-5. The Guide to Knowledgfe was a penny weekly, effectively a serialised encyclopaedia, with woodcut illustrations of various desgrees of refinement: maps (including English counties, and some overseas ones) and natural history seem to do better than people and buildings.
