Map title:
'Accrington Gas and Water Works Company. Plan of part of the town of Accrington. No. 3' [etc].
Comments on map:
Plans 1-4 dated June or August 1856; the rest 1884. Evidently derived as far as possible from Ordnance Survey 1:1056, with additions to a simpler specification, notably the omitting of tenement divisions in buildings: this particularly applies to the 1880s work, so that on No. 10 a 'Locomotive engine shed' is not rail-connected. Includes east part of Church. No.6 of the 1884 group has new detail drawn over old, providing before-&-after effect. On No. 9 detail cuts into the title, indicating a later addition.
