Map title:
'A general survey of the town of Gordon'sburgh with the houses gardens and other lands contiguous thereto the property of his Grace Allexr. Duke of Gordon by P.M. 1753.'
Comments on map:
Long note on town and potential for improvement on left-hand side, which opens '... from the best information I can get anent the town of Maryburgh, there is not many of the inhabitants in a thriving way, the greatest part by far are people of little character or business, and these indolent and idle, the consequence of which is beging or thieving if not both. They are so indifferent about improvements that not a few of them throw their dung within the flood mark so as to be washed away with the sea, rather than carry it upon the land, but this may be owing to the uncertainty of their settlements.' Pasted on is a table of the number of houses and families in the town. 'P.M.' appears to be P. May.
