Map title:
'The municipal boundaries of Swansea, ancient and modern, carefully drawn from original and authentic sources; to illustrate Major Grant-Francis' work. By Thomas Jones of the Town Surveyor's Office. 1867.'
Comments on map:
F.p. 116 of Geo. Grant Francis (ed), Charters granted to Swansea, London: 'Not published', 1867. Get-up of book is lavish, with sonme photographs, but map is of a lower order. Engraving of map was paid for by dedicee. On right is a table of statistics, including 9 churches, 33 chapels, water supply of 311,000,000 gallons, 589 gas lights, 61,092 yards of sewerage, 57 pilots with 10 boats. The map seems more interesting for its symbology than its topography, except for its (numbered) indentification of numerous copper, arsenic, etc works.
