Comments on map:
Combination of town map and 1:253,440 environs map: cf Newcastle [Exeter 19726]. RD BM 20 Sep 1894 blue. Style differs from usual Bartholomew: buildings much more generalised, with carmine infill rather than hatching, and green wash used for both open spaces and woods (which are without tree symbols). It all creates a rather 'vacant' effect.
