Attribution to Beer [rather than to Matthias Merian and dating to 1690, as in e.g. Constable (1932)] are via D. Smith, 'The enduring image of early British townscapes', Cartographic Journal 28 (1991), 163-175 (esp. p. 169), and Raymond Frostrick, The printed plans of Norwich (2002), p.19. The British Library copies of Exeter 18302 and 19732-19745 are in a modern bound volume without title-page or any other identification. The only text on the map is in the title. [BLML '1967' catalogue suggests ? Matthias Merian, Frankfort.] (It also contains at (7) a map of Dublin and at (12) a prospect of Edinburgh.) Identification of Devon & Exeter Institution copy by pencil note. Scale is about 1:20,000 SW-NE, 1:8000 NW-SE.
