Curator, Dartmouth Borough Museum, February 1950, noting that the original is 22.5 x 17 inches, and is almost certainly that drawn by Nicholas Townsend in 1619, the entry in the accounts of Andrew Wakelan, Reciever of the Borough, reading: 'Payd Nicholas Townsend for Gilding the Towns Armes over the Church Porch, for working the tables of arms in the church, and on the drawing of new plates for the towne
